Description of Group Settings

In the Web Filter desktop application, you can configure group-specific rules for Internet usage under Management > Web Filter > Groups > Settings.

You can set different rules for the Web Filter for each group. It is also possible to define a group leader for each group who can reject or confirm release requests for websites.

  • Activate group: Here, you activate or block the Internet usage for the corresponding group in general.
  • Allow user to reqest a release: With this option, you allow users to request releases for blocked websites.
  • E-Mail group leader: Here, you can enter the email address of a person who belongs to the group. This person decides upon release requests within the group.
  • Enable advertising filter: With this option, you specify that advertising banners are to be blocked.
  • Block uncategorized URLs: If you select this setting, the Web Filter will block unknown and uncategorized websites.
  • Enable virus protection: The virus protection is always active and cannot be deactivated.
  • Block hacked server: With this option, you determine that the access to manipulated websites will be blocked.
  • Enable ftp connections: Activate this option to allow FTP connections.
    Note:

This option is obsolete because FTP is supported in general.

  • Allow temporary release: With this function, you allow users to unlock blocked websites for a certain period of time (15 minutes). There are three different settings:
    • If you check the box Off, it is not possible to unlock blocked websites temporarily.
    • If you check the box All, all users are able to unlock all blocked websites.
    • If you select a Group leader, all categories marked with a red lock in the Web Filter categories are excluded from the release option (see Web Filter Categories).
    Note:

An important feature of this function is that the administrator is able to view all temporary releases from his workspace (see Workspace).

  • Forbidden file extensions: To block the download of certain file formats, you can enter the file extensions here and create a list of file formats that should be blocked.
    Important:

Always enter file extensions with a dot before the letters (.exe).

If you would like to reset the settings to default, click on Default in the upper right corner.
