VM Backup

Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup is a virtual machine backup and restoring service.

The Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup service can back up and restore Hyper-V and VMware virtual machines. The service also supports technologies such as Microsoft Exchange and SQL. Partners can offer their customers a subscription to back up and restore virtual machines through this service, and centrally manage and monitor their customers' backups.

Backups can be stored both locally and in the cloud on a variety of storage media. For example, cloud storage from Microsoft Azure, Amazon S3 and Wasabi are natively supported. Backups can be encrypted for increased security. In addition, policies can be used to specify the retention period of the backups. The health of all backups is constantly monitored by the Backup Health Monitor, which detects and repairs damaged blocks.

In addition to the manual creation of backups, the service offers the option of automatically backing up virtual machines at regular intervals during operation. A virtual machine can be backed up up to once every 5 minutes. This minimizes data loss in case of disaster. If a virtual machine crashes, a copy can be immediately booted from an external location so that the work can go on.

There are also several options when restoring backups. It is possible to restore entire virtual machines, predefined groups of virtual machines or individual files. The restore operation is not limited to the most recent backup; previous backups can also be restored.
