Using Keywords in the Email Subject

If you have booked Email Encryption, your S/MIME users can use the following keywords in the subject of their outgoing emails to trigger actions.

If Email Encryption is activated for a domain, the S/MIME users of that domain can use keywords in the subject of their outgoing emails. These keywords trigger actions. The S/MIME users can use the following keywords:

  • CRYPT: The email is sent with S/MIME encryption.
  • NOCRYPT: The email is sent without S/MIME encryption.
  • SIGN: The email is sent with an S/MIME signature.
  • NOSIGN: The email is sent without an S/MIME signature.
Important:

Keywords only trigger actions if they are written in capitals. The CRYPT keyword must be placed at the beginning of the subject. The other keywords can be placed anywhere in the subject.

The CRYPT keyword can also be used if no S/MIME certificate is available for the sender. To encrypt an email, only the recipient’s public key must be available. However, in order to sign an email with the SIGN keyword, a valid S/MIME certificate must be available for the sender.
