Troubleshooting: Installing the Certificate in Outlook on a Mobile Device with iOS with an Already Encrypted Mailbox

You cannot open the email with the attached certificate, and therefore cannot install the your personal certificate on a mobile device with iOS.

Reason

You have already encrypted your mailbox with 365 Total Encryption and cannot read the encrypted emails on your mobile device with iOS.

Solution

  1. Open Outlook on the device on which you installed the certificate.
  2. Click on New appointment under Calendar.

  3. Enter a title for the appointment in the field Title.
  4. Click on the tab Add entry.
  5. Click on Attach File and select the downloaded certificate.

  6. Click on Save & Close.

  7. Open Outlook on your mobile device.
  8. Select the calendar.

    The calendar opens.

  9. Open the appointment you have just created.

    You see the details of your appointment.

  10. Tap on Attachments.

    Your personal certificate is displayed as a file.

  11. Tap on the displayed certificate.
  12. Click on Install certificate.

  13. Enter the passphrase to your personal certificate and click on Install.

    The certificate has been installed.

  14. In the next window, click on Settings.

  15. Activate S/MIME and click on OK.

    You have installed your personal certificate in Outlook on iOS.
